Have been bashing my head on the wall for many days trying to figure out how to do just about everything in infoglue. I am new to nearly all the technologies that infoglue is based on and have found the documentation that is available, either wrong for the version I'm using, assumes too much for a noob like me, or just not there at all for many things.

In my painful attempts to get things working I put together a bit of a noob getting started based on the Developer bundle 2.9.5 version. I'm sure somebody on this forum will say something like, "Why are you doing it like that - there's a much better way" - please do. While the noob guide is 18 pages long there are a lot of pictures, so it can be gone through quite quickly.

Hope it helps somebody else.

Hope to be shown a better way.

Hope to have at least one of my questions at the end of the guide answered by this forum.

Hi GrahamButcher! What a very nice thing to do. I have read through your guide and I think it seems to be a very good Getting Started guide for a beginner. I have one main comment: on page 5 you create the component structure XML for a Page Template manually. This is not necessary and I think I have never done that, myself. Try to do it like this: Create a new SiteNode and instead of selecting a page template, just leave it. then, when you go to the new sitenode it will notice you that you have not set a page template and offer you to do so. But it will also offer you the option to set a base component instead. Do that, selecting your component BareBones. Then right click the page and you should be able to save it as a page template. Then the page template will get the correct component structure.

I hope that made some kind of sense.

As to your questions. If you post the most important ones as forum threads I or someone else might be able to help you.

Hi, I'm also a completely new user and I can see why you spent several days banging your head against the wall because getting started with this seems to be a serious uphill battle. I'm using the Developer bundle which is supposed to be 'easy to get started' (one wonders, compared to what?).

My question is. In the first instruction you say "Log in as administrator". I've not been able to find any username or password anywhere which would allow me to do that.

Thanks.

* EDIT *

Heh, I finally found it. Turns out I was looking in the development manual when I should have been looking in the administration manual.

I've moved on quite a ways since this noob guide, and I seem to remember that I had to find the password in one of the tomcat configuration files (or was that something else).

Looking at my development bundle setup, I see there are two users called admin and administrator which I didn't create (I think). So worth trying admin/admin maybe.

Right just looked in the build.properties file and there are two lines in there:
database.user=root
database.password=ijikal

so that's what I remember, but thats for the mysql database access in the developer bundle.

Looking around some more, I find in the cms.properties file, the line:
administratorPassword=@administratorPassword@

and in another cms.properties file, I find the line:
administratorPassword=ijikal

so I reckon administrator/ijikal and admin/ijikal are worth a try also.

Thanx!

Hehe, not the most intuitive way to get access to an example setup though

Hi - the default login is administrator / changeit for 2.x and in the 3.0 beta it's administrator / changeme.

The root account is the last resort account used if you misconfigured the auth-connection etc and cannot login with normal users.
I think this is explained in the docs or on the site. We should make sure to analyse the newbie-report and make a FAQ or simplify the gui based on it. Also - a few videos on how to start would be great and simple to make.
